The smiley folks at No Star were good enough to bring me on for (3) months of contract designer work in late 2009, early 2010. During my short time working with them, my primary role was that of a Digital Strategy Director – more or less this meant I was in charge of revamping their online marketing strategy and coordinating the development of 3 new websites. 3 new websites in 3 months. The websites we built all had unique yet uniform front-ends yet all were powered by a single Open Source ecommerce backend. Let’s be honest, I find configuring databases tricky – I admire those that know how. In the end I was happy with the how the sites turned out:

Above, is a No Star doodling I did on the train to work one day. Below is a binder full of my project management notes:
For the new websites, I ironed and photographed hundreds and hundreds of shirts – prepping product photography:
Here is a quick rundown/video tour of the project I worked on:
Kind of funny, but when my contracted ended, I “cleaned out my desk” and below is what I took home with me. Most items I picked up on my walk/train/walk/train/walk commute:

Thanks to No Star for the work as well as all that I learned in just 3 short months.

Picture below from 2008: In the back of my mind (and sometimes on paper while I ride the bus) I’ve been mapping out a new website – a fun tool for my family. The idea is still pretty early stage so I don’t have the thoughts organized just yet. Ultimately though, I imagine this site will combine elements of calendaring, communication, photo sharing, genealogy and a bunch of other family related crap
Below is the site map for the new site in progress – can’t wait to get you online mama!

Early stage web-based algorithm concept with the goal to connect the dots between needs/wants and a society’s capacity to provide for itself and each other:

We just signed a lease for new office space at Network Redux. One of my responsibilities is to work with the architect on the space plan. Pops would be proud – he is an architect by trade. We’ve been mapping out walls, lighting fixtures, window treatments, conference room, executive office, power/internet ports, sink and cabinets, reception area, monitoring software monitors, etc. It’s been a fun side project to work on. Today, Ryan our Broker, sent us a proposed floorplan from the architect – I highlighted a few things and put together a list of follow up questions to send to them tomorrow. We move in September 1st!
